What is periodontitis?

Periodontitis is a bacterial disease that surreptitiously installs without warning. It usually does not cause any pain. The symptoms of periodontal disease are: bad breath, bleeding gums or brushing the passage of dental floss. The result: teeth become mobile. This ugly (and unfortunately common) disease affects 85% of the population to varying degrees, causing more than 70% of dental loss of teeth. This means that it must not be overlooked!
The causes
Periodontitis is caused by bacteria, plaque and tartar that settle in the gingival sulcus. This causes an inflammation of the gums and, over time, the destruction of the bone supporting the teeth and the emergence of the so-called pockets peradventures. The consequences of this process are not insignificant: the reduction of bone support can lead to tooth mobility, while the pockets themselves can become infected, causing swelling and pain and causing bone loss in a few days. Other factors increase the risk: heredity, smoking and diabetes.
