Preventing Gum Infection Using Proper Dental Care

Gum disease is an infection of the gums caused by bacterial plaque. The key to preventing gum infection is by following a good program of dental hygiene. Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day can help prevent plaque from forming on the surface of the teeth and below the gumline. Take time to brush teeth at least three minutes since a toothbrush can only clean one tooth at a time. Always use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Observing proper brushing techniques can help alleviate bad breath and germ build up. You should also replace toothbrush every three to four months. Run your toothbrush through the dishwasher regularly for added protection against germs and bacteria.
