Abscess (periapical and endodontics)
The periapical abscess is located at the end of the root of the tooth but it is often not apparent. It is caused by caries have reached the pulp (nerve) of the tooth. To correct this injury, and thus preserve the tooth, there is a root canal.
Endodontic or root canal
The teeth are composed of three layers hard (enamel, dentin, cementum) and interior space contains the dental pulp, composed of nerves and blood vessels. The root canal (endodontic) is to remove the infected pulp (e.g. cavities, abscesses), injured or dead. The canal is cleaned, disinfected and thoroughly sealed with a rubberized material. A filling or a crown then restores the tooth.
